Big Dutchman Helps Power Malaysia’s Cage-Free Momentum
Malaysia’s transition toward better-welfare, cage-free egg production took a decisive step forward at the Malaysia Cage-Free Corporate Implementation Progress Forum & Industry Leadership Awards 2025 (20 Sept 2025, 8:30 AM–2:00 PM, Ballroom, Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur), co-organised by Humane World for Animals and the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producers’ Organisation (MCFEPO). Designed to accelerate transparent, accountable implementation, the forum combined focused sessions with an industry leadership recognition segment, turning commitments into measurable progress.
Policy leadership and a new Centre of Excellence
Setting the tone for the day, Guest of Honour Dato’ Sri Norazman Bin Ayob, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security (MAFS), delivered the official address and officiated the strategic MoU to establish the Malaysian Centre of Excellence for Cage-Free Egg Production, which is a collaboration between Humane World for Animals, MCFEPO, and TC Poultry. Earlier, the program also included an MoU on training collaboration between MCFEPO and the Axon Foundation, underscoring the forum’s “from talk to tools” intent.
Transforming tradition: a call to action
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Lee Lam Thye – Chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community and Eco World Foundation, and Patron of SPCA Selangor – delivered the keynote, “Transforming Tradition: Malaysia’s Journey Towards Better Welfare and Sustainable Egg Production.” He also presided over the launch of Malaysia’s Cage-Free Industry Implementation Progress Dashboard, a practical mechanism to drive transparency, accountability and recognition across the supply chain.
The morning agenda featured a welcome by MCFEPO, an opening address by Dr Saravanakumar S. Pillai (Humane World for Animals), a note on the rebranding to Humane World for Animals (formerly Humane Society International), a scientific plenary by Dr Vineeta Poojary, and two working sessions, including Progress & Industry Landscape and From Commitment to Reality, plus town hall dialogues by sector.

A proud moment for our team: Peter Leong, Area Sales Manager, BU Egg, accepted the award for “Excellent in Cage-Free System Development” on behalf of Big Dutchman Asia, recognising our industrial leadership and the tangible footprint of Big Dutchman cage-free equipment installed across Malaysia.
In a gesture of partnership, Peter presented our limited edition chicken figurine to Dr Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal, Policy & Engagement for Farm Animal Welfare (Humane World for Animals) and Adviser to MCFEPO.
Why this matters and how Big Dutchman adds value
Cage-free success depends on more than just intent; it requires a robust housing design, reliable feeding and watering systems, climate control, biosecurity, effective manure handling, and data-driven management. That’s where Big Dutchman’s end-to-end solutions help producers convert policy direction into day-to-day performance, balancing bird welfare, food safety, labour efficiency and sustainability.
Our role at forums like this is twofold:
Share proven technology and operating playbooks that de-risk transitions for producers, and support ecosystem alignment – from ministries and NGOs to hotels, retailers and foodservice – so demand signals and on-farm capability grow in lockstep.
Looking ahead
As the Centre of Excellence takes shape, formal declarations of commitment, implementation case studies, and an expanding roster of downstream cage-free products, Malaysia’s dashboard approach is turning momentum into measurable progress. Big Dutchman Asia will continue to support producers, train teams, and deploy systems that meet the practical realities of cage-free at scale.
Congratulations to all award recipients, our customers and partners, and to the organisers for a purposeful, solutions-oriented event. We’re honoured to contribute, and even more excited about what comes next for Malaysia’s cage-free journey.
