Big Dutchman Asia Supports Landmark SMACH Agropark Launch in Cameron Highlands

Tringkap, Cameron Highlands — September 11, 2025
Big Dutchman Asia is proud to announce its contribution to the newly launched Sustainable Modern Agriculture Cameron Highlands (SMACH) Agropark – Phase 1, a pioneering project officially inaugurated by His Majesty Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah.

This strategic initiative, covering 8,724.60 sqm (approximately 3 acres) in Tringkap, marks an important milestone in Malaysia’s journey towards sustainable, modern, and environmentally responsible agriculture. SMACH Agropark integrates greenhouse technology, IoT-based precision farming, and ESG-driven best practices to serve as a benchmark for future agricultural developments in the country.

His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by the Menteri Besar of Pahang, Dato’ Sri Diraja Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, officiated the launch with a site tour, MoU signing ceremony, and the unveiling of the Agropark plaque. The project’s opening was further highlighted by His Majesty’s call for agricultural practices in Cameron Highlands to prioritise ESG principles (Environmental, Social, and Governance) to ensure continued access to global export markets.

“Without ESG, Cameron Highlands produce risks rejection in international markets, especially in Singapore and beyond. It is vital to change farming methods and strengthen governance for the future of agriculture here,” His Majesty emphasized during the ceremony.

His Majesty also expressed concern over unsustainable land use, particularly the excessive use of plastics and deforestation in Lembah Bertam, urging farmers, government bodies, and private sector partners to take a proactive role in responsible land management and innovation.

The Role of Big Dutchman Horticulture

As part of this landmark project, Big Dutchman Asia, through its Horticulture division, supplied key greenhouse infrastructure and crop support systems to ensure sustainable and high-quality vegetable production. Our contributions include:

  • Two state-of-the-art greenhouse structures designed for high-altitude farming.
  • Insect netting systems to reduce chemical pesticide use and protect crop integrity.
  • Trellising systems to optimise plant growth, yield, and labour efficiency for crops such as bell peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

These solutions are built to withstand Cameron Highlands’ unique climatic conditions, while supporting higher yields, lower input costs, and reduced environmental impact.

A Catalyst for ESG-driven Agriculture

The SMACH Agropark is more than a farm, it is envisioned as a national model for sustainable agriculture, integrating:

  • Smart technologies: sensors, automation, and IoT tools for climate control and crop monitoring.
  • Sustainable practices: organic farming methods, integrated pest management, and responsible waste recycling.
  • Capacity building: partnerships with Yayasan Pahang, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), TanahMu, and MCPA to strengthen farmer education, R&D, and market readiness.

Through these measures, the project seeks to position Cameron Highlands as a reference hub for modern horticulture in Malaysia.

Strengthening Local Economy and Global Competitiveness

The SMACH Agropark Phase 1 is expected to generate high-value crop outputs while contributing to the economic development of Pahang. By improving productivity and sustainability, the initiative provides opportunities for:

  • Farmers to access better training and technology.
  • Businesses to enhance market competitiveness.
  • The state to strengthen food security while protecting its highland ecology.

Big Dutchman’s Commitment

For more than 85 years, Big Dutchman has led innovations in livestock and agricultural technology across the globe. With the launch of SMACH Agropark, we reaffirm our mission of “Taking Action for Future Generations”, providing not only equipment but also knowledge and partnerships that advance sustainable food production.

We are honoured to play a part in this initiative, working alongside the people of Pahang to secure a greener, more resilient agricultural future.
