Yangon: Big Dutchman Myanmar at the regional livestock, feed and agriculture exhibition
Big Dutchman Myanmar participated in the country’s no. 1 International Livestock, Feed and Agriculture (Agri-Livestock Show 2017) Exhibition earlier this month. The Agri Livestock show '17 was held at Tatmadaw Exhibition Hall, Yangon. It turned out a great success: at this year’s fair, the number of visitors at the Big Dutchman (BD) booth increased by 35% compared to the previous year. Big Dutchman also took home the accolade for the ‘Best Product Display’.
Participating in this exhibition allows BD to stay in touch with its customers and to keep them constantly informed about new and upgraded farm management systems. Big Dutchman has always attached great importance to providing farmers with complete poultry and pig equipment solutions, including turn-key projects (drafting proposals, design and building construction activities and equipment installation).
Increased Demand for Modern Farming Systems
The increased number of visitors clearly indicates a rising demand for modern farming systems and technological know-how. Therefore, Myanmar’s Agri Livestock '17 was a highly anticipated event and one of the most important exhibitions in Myanmar.
The rise in visitor numbers also reflects the rapid growth of Myanmar’s livestock industry, which matches the nation's growing food demand. The figures of the Asian Development Bank, which reported an 8.4% growth in Myanmar’s GDP for 2016, and 8.3% for 2017, strongly suggest that Myanmar’s economy is growing rapidly and, with a population of over 50 million people, the country is experiencing a robust and dynamic economy. The positive outlook means that food producers will have to go to great lengths to provide the population with high-quality and healthy choices of meat and protein. Hence the need for an efficient, modern and sustainable farming system.
Innovative Technology for Pig and Poultry Production
The BD equipment on display included drinking systems, air inlets and manure removal systems for modern poultry production, and farrowing pens, feeder areas and gestation pens for modern pig production.
One of the most popular exhibits for pig production was TriSortpro, an automatic, permanent weight control sorting scale for successful pig finishing. This innovative technology allows pigs to be sorted according to their individual weight. TriSortpro helps the farmers to determine the exact number and weight of ready-to-slaughter pigs so they meet the slaughtering criteria, and to increase the overall yield and to lower feeding costs.
Another innovation that attracted attention were the enhanced welfare products for sows, piglets and finishing pigs. Modern farming not only needs to be economically viable, but must also meet animal welfare requirements. Big Dutchman offers a wide variety of enrichment toys as well as other equipment to satisfy the needs of poultry and pigs. These include the free-movement farrowing pen for the improved welfare of the sow and piglets and aviaries in the poultry department.
Talk and Award
Mr. Tommy Lim, from Big Dutchman Malaysia, purposefully flew to Yangon to give a talk on ‘Heat Stress Management by Ventilation’ for poultry breeding which was well received by the customers. To summarise, the exhibition was a big success for Big Dutchman.
